Resource Critique Activity

I chose to do a standard for the 7th grade and I evaluated a resource from standard LAFS.6.SL.2.5 which read:  Include multimedia components (e.g., graphics, images, music, sound) and visual displays in presentations to clarify information. The resource I chose was "Weathering and Erosion Video Project". It is a lesson plan for a project that instructs 6th graders to create instructional video that they will show to 4th graders to teach them about weathering and erosion. The resource include a project rubric that the group fills out as a self assessment and also the 4th graders fill out as an assessment of the project. I liked that the lesson plan discussed what both the 6th AND 4th graders will have accomplished by the end of the project. It's also a good way to get students familiar with video projects, because I know I din't do a video project until the 9th grade. I wish the resource had included student samples, if not the video itself then the filled o...

Second Journal!

As a student, MS Word has been the most used application in my career. Every paper that I have had to turn in for a class has been on done on Word. It's the program I'm most familiar with and the one that my teachers all approve of universally. I never even thought of using another application. Since the first grade, my elementary school took pride in teaching all their students how to become familiar with all the programs on their computers. In the class periods where we'd learn how to use Word, I would find myself practicing how to make brochures, flyers, and even invitations. I never really understood how to do more intricate things until I took the Computer Fluency course (CGS 2060) here at FSU. They went into more detail about each and every tab on the program. Personally, I see MS Word now solely as a way to write papers and create tests and quizzes. I've learned about different programs to make more visually appealing handouts and complete different organ...

First Journal!

There are many reasons that would influence a teacher to use technology. One being giving their students the advantage of being fluent in technology. In today's digital forward world, it's almost impossible to be successful while not being knowledgable in technology. Another can be convenience: a teacher can know upload grades in an instant and a student can see where they are at in the class, teachers can upload PowerPoints and notes from the lesson that day so a student can look over the lesson at home at his own speed. This leads to an advantage for the students. It creates a more personable and hands on experience for the student so they can learn most efficiently. This is an influence for both teachers AND students. Students want to have all the resources to do their best in the classroom and again, convenience is a big part.          An ISTE standard that is meaningful for me is "Leader:  Educators seek out opportunities for le...
