Resource Critique Activity
I chose to do a standard for the 7th grade and I evaluated a resource from standard LAFS.6.SL.2.5 which read: Include multimedia components (e.g., graphics, images, music, sound) and visual displays in presentations to clarify information. The resource I chose was "Weathering and Erosion Video Project". It is a lesson plan for a project that instructs 6th graders to create instructional video that they will show to 4th graders to teach them about weathering and erosion. The resource include a project rubric that the group fills out as a self assessment and also the 4th graders fill out as an assessment of the project. I liked that the lesson plan discussed what both the 6th AND 4th graders will have accomplished by the end of the project. It's also a good way to get students familiar with video projects, because I know I din't do a video project until the 9th grade. I wish the resource had included student samples, if not the video itself then the filled out rubrics that both the 6th and 4th graders filled out.

Hello!
ReplyDeleteI am assuming from your post that you want to teach 6th grade and I think that is great! This lesson is really cool in the fact that it includes 4th graders and 6th graders. It gives the 6th graders the chance to teach, and 4th graders get an idea on what they are in for. Best of luck!
I love the hands on group project idea! I believe a great way for students to learn is for them to discover things themselves!
ReplyDeleteI love that this lesson plan allows for students of different ages to collaborate. It seems that typically, students collaborate among their classroom but not among other grades. I'd like to try this someday in my classroom!
